Here you can find answers to frequently asked questions regarding your cooperation with PMG and on matters such as media monitoring, press reviews and media analysis.
A press review is a compilation of current articles and contributions from various press products, such as newspapers, magazines and increasingly also online publications. It is regularly compiled in companies, authorities, associations and other institutions to inform employees or members.
The preparation and dissemination of press reviews is often done internally by the responsible department in an organisation. Alternatively, an external service provider – such as a clipping service – selects the articles and compiles them into a press review according to the client’s content specifications.
In contrast to the press review, which summarises messages from current media reports editorially, the press review collects media reports in the form of clippings.
Press reviews can be produced and distributed in paper form or digitally.
What is a saveable search?
In the press review portal, you can enter various search terms as a search, save them and modify or expand them yourself at any time. This “Saved search” can then be run again at any time or used for alerts (hit notifications). You can link the search terms using connecting words (operators) such as AND or OR. You can also define the exact media in which each storable search is to be performed.
How many search terms does a saved search contain?
A saved search provides enough space to set up your search topic with multiple search terms, phrases and alternative spellings. The maximum number of characters is limited but generous. How many search terms you can use depends on the length of your words and how many operators you use. You may change and add to your search terms independently at any time without extra charge.
What is a readership?
The readership describes a fixed group of readers who receive your press review. This could be, for example, all employees or the management level of your organisation. With several readership groups, you serve different groups of people (distribution groups) within your organisation. For example, one circle includes the communications department, another the management and a third the employees at another location. The article prices for a number of readers from 1 to 10 are identical. For more readers, the prices increase as the number grows. In our media panel for press reviews you can have the prices calculated for each reader.
What media (sources) are available in the PMG press database?
The press database covers all of the daily press in the German-speaking area and also includes many international titles. A list of all publications available for your press review can be found in our press review media panel. The media available for your analysis with PMG MediaMeter are detailed in the MediaMeter media panel.
How soon can I commence my article search?
An individual search profile can be set up as soon as the contract has been signed. The PMG press database can thus be used on the same day.
How soon can I access the articles from daily newspapers?
The items of daily news arrive in the PMG press database aorund the clock. The content of all 3.000 publications is available by 7 a.m. at the latest.
For how long are articles stored in the PMG press database?
For creating press reviews daily news sources are retained for 60 days. Weekly, monthly oder quarterly publications are generally stored during the regular 60 day-period – but at least the 2 latest editions.
In order to create digital media analyses reviews can be done from the start for 31 days.
Questions concerning legal basis of article use
What are the maximum storage periods for press review articles?
Articles must be deleted within 4 weeks of the date of publication. A digital file copy of the press review can be stored for 1 year. For longer storage periods of up to 10 years, additional archiving rights can be acquired via PMG. Info sheet: archiving rights
How do I license articles that I have digitised myself?
By means of a monthly upload of a CSV file to the PMG press database.
May I process or search articles offered or licensed by PMG using text and data mining or artificial intelligence applications?
No, this is not permitted. The use of text and data mining or artificial intelligence applications is only permitted after prior licensing. Such use on the legal basis of Section 44b German Copyright Act (UrhG) is ruled out, as both the newspaper and magazine publishers and PMG expressly reserve the right to use the entire content offered by them for commercial text and data mining within the meaning of Section 44b German Copyright Act (UrhG), in particular for the use of artificial intelligence applications.
